The Invisible Made Clear – Cover Story
The newest edition of the POST, a monthly magazine for the University of Florida Health system, features our very own Drs. Ianessa Humbert and Emily Plowman, highlighting the “invisible” disorder of dysphagia. While dysphagia may not be obvious to outsiders, those who feel its effects can be socially isolated and face serious health consequences, as Dr. Plomwan describes at the outset of the article. Dr. Humbert continues on to point out that the relatively young field of dysphagia needs further growth and interdisciplinary recognition to support patients who rely on oral intake for nutrition, hydration, and medications. In line with this thinking, Drs. Humbert and Plowman are not the only experts featured in this cover story; it also incorporates input from patients and medical experts who have rallied around illuminating this otherwise elusive disorder.
