Do the Charleston

The Swallowing Systems Core sent its fearless leaders (and best dancers), Dr. Ianessa Humbert, Dr. Emily Plowman, and collaborator Dr. Karen Hegland to the Charleston Swallowing Conference, held this year at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Here is a blurb from the event’s page: “Historically the largest clinical swallowing conference in the US, The Charleston Swallowing Conference is a multidisciplinary conference designed for practicing clinicians across all patient care settings and ages. More than 80 renowned dysphagia experts will present. Last held in 2013, this conference strategically occurs only when there is sufficiently novel and relevant research, clinical, and professional information that warrants rapid translation into patient-centered care.”

The theme of this year’s CSC was “it’s all about the patient,” a poignant reminder for all those working in dysphagia rehabilitation. Learn more about the conference here!
