ACNS Conference 2018
One unique collaboration within the SSC is between Dr. Ianessa Humbert and Dr. Andrew Lotto of UF’s Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Science. Dr. Lotto is Director of the Hearing Research Center and founder of the Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Society (ACNS). Their annual conference was in Tampa at the beginning of January, where Dr. Humbert made a splash as the sole swallowing researcher. Her presentation on “Oral sensory-motor integration for planning the movements of a swallow: What is necessary?” was well received among attendees whose expertise ranges from auditory perception to fluency disorders to music psychology. As she often does in her Advocacy talks, Dr. Humbert made swallowing salient as only she can–with the combination of engaging information and well-placed gifs.
